North Weald | 13/8/40 | Today the squadron encountered a very large formation of Do 215's F/Lt. Smith shot down one in flames using the Cannon Hurricane. F/O. Milne shot two down, one of which broke up in the air the other crashing in the vicinity of Christchurch. Sgt. Savill also shot one down into the sea. Sgt. Atkinson was shot down but bailed out and was picked up in the sea and is at the moment in hospital suffering from shock. |

Although the summary records Sgt. Atkinson as shot down on the 13th the detail records him returning to North Weald. It lists him "missing" on the morning of the 14th.
